Does anyone know how student athletes who attend high school in rural towns travel to their away games?

I've always wondered this because a friend of mine use to live in Pioche Nevada in Eastern Nevada and there's nothing around that town for literally hundreds of miles but their high school use to play teams in Northern Nevada.

  1. The school provides a bus for the teams. Our school does this and so do all the area schools. Some of the teams they play are over an hour away. I am sure the funds come out of the sports activity account. It's been done this way for years in the rural areas.
  2. In most areas, if the school want to particpate in these kinds of events, they must provide their own transportation. If the school can afford it, they lease busses to take the players to away games. Sometimes, they can lease the bus and hire the use of a driver from the fleet of the district's school busses. Sometimes, they have to contract with a charter bus company. Often, the school does not have the budget for this service. The school may have alumni "Booster Clubs" who collect money for this, and other services. Or parents will help by organzing car and van pools. But, somehow, the schools must raise their own resources to do it. If not, they, simply do not participate in intermural sports.
